Welcome to Panthi HydroSystem Lab

Our research focuses on understanding water movement across the full hydrologic cycle—from the atmosphere to surface water to groundwater—treating them as interconnected components of an integrated system i.e. One Water. We specialize in agricultural and semi-arid landscapes like those found in Kansas, where water resources are under increasing stress from climate variability and human use. Our team combines cutting-edge tools including satellite remote sensing (e.g., GRACE/GRACE-FO), numerical models, and geophysical techniques with detailed field observations to understand complex water processes. We investigate how groundwater sustains streams and crops, and how land use and climate shape water availability and quality. By working across disciplines and in close collaboration with local water managers, and scientists from diverse fields, we aim to advance science-based, data-informed water resource solutions that support sustainability, resilience, and agricultural productivity in Kansas and beyond.
